My Camera Case Boredom Buster

So here's what I did on Friday night. I was bored, looking for something to do, when I noticed my poor new camera sitting there uncovered. I knew if I wanted to keep it in my purse, it would need protection, so I started to come up with a plan (purses are not safe for delicate gadgets). I decided that crocheting a case would take too long, so I got out some Amy Butler fabric scraps and some batting, and went to work. It didn't take long at all, which is great, so now my camera is safe. I still need to add a closure, but I haven't decided what to use yet.
Basically, it is a strip of rectangular fabric (outer fabric, batting, inner fabric) that has been quilted, then sewn together. After quilting, I edged one short end of the fabric sandwich first with a 1.5inch strip of outer fabric, then folded it and sewed up the sides. I then eyeballed the curve on one side of the case top, then folded it in half to cut the other side to match. Using another 1.5inch piece of outer fabric, cut on the bias, I edged the outside to finish. What a great, quick boredom buster! And I still had time to watch Moonlight...

Twins

I'm not sure if I should be posting this, since one of the Pikmin on the left is a gift, but I doubt he'll see my blog anyway... :-)
I made the red one exactly like the yellow one, but used a flower on top instead (Flower Pikmin are the most powerful). I realize that technically speaking, red Pikmin don't have ears, they have noses. However, the gift recipient requested ears, so he gets ears. Anyway, here are the twins, in all their geeky, Nintendo-chic glory. See the previous post for the pattern!

I'm so excited!

So I was surfing my usual sites and blogs this morning, when I came across a post on DIYLife. The blogger had compiled a list of favorite knit and crochet patterns for the month of October, and my little Pinecone pattern made the list!! I was so excited, I called my husband and emailed my mom. It's fun to feel a little famous for a few minutes, especially today, with work being what it is. Oh well, 4 more hours until vacation...

Cupcakes!!

So this past weekend, I thought I'd make up some of the cupcake patterns that I have seen all over the place. The first one is titled 'Moldy Cupcake' by Glee, and is awesome. My husband thought he was kind of gross, but I think it's excellent. He has some green moldy spots, but it's hard to tell in the picture. He took quite a bit longer to make than the second one, but was well worth it. Also, I changed the edging to be the same as the second cupcake; I felt the edging specified was too much.

The second cupcake is a pattern by Bittersweet, and works up quickly; I think it took me an hour. I made it as a gift for my friend Amber. It'd fun to make stuff for people while sitting in the car on the way to Tuscaloosa. It's really cute.

Yellow Pikmin!!

I finally finished this guy!! He is a yellow Pikmin, from the Nintendo game of the same name. I just think these guys are so cute, so why not crochet one? If I ever get a chance, I'll make a set of three; a red one with the nose and a bud, and a blue one with a mouth and a flower!! I had to photograph him in front of the cork board for lack of a better idea, but I'll take a better picture of him outside tomorrow. He longs to be with the trees anyway... :-) I'll also post the pattern, as soon as I get it into a legible format.

Pinky & Talullah

These snails are a blatant, yet slightly deformed, copy of Gourmet Amigurumi's, but I absolutely had to have one. I managed to work out the head and body myself, but I used another pattern for the shell, which I then modified a little. Naturally, since they are not my design, I would never attempt to sell them or give out the pattern, but they were just so cute I had to make them. Pinky sits at my desk with me all day, and Talullah lives with my parents. I'm still trying to figure out how Talullah came out slightly smaller, but oh well. This is still a pattern-in-progress. Now, on to my next original pattern...
